New Year Resolutions?
Luke 2: 40-52
We have celebrated Christmas and a new year has begun. For some there will be reflection on the past year as many make their new year resolutions. I am going to do this, this year, or I won’t do that again. We start with good intentions but somehow, they seem to get lost as the year rolls on.
No, we don’t keep our promises, a few at best, maybe. And often they are only kept out of our own self-righteousness. You cannot justify yourself in the mirror of God’s law. Righteous I am not, but sinner I am.
Thank goodness there is one who keeps his word, which is why we have just celebrated Christmas. Instead of you trying to be righteous and failing, Jesus has come to give you a righteousness that does pass the test of God’s holy law, because it’s Christ’s own perfect righteousness. Through him you are forgiven, a clean slate, sins washed away. He offers it to you, righteousness in God’s sight, so that you can live forever.
God bless
