Jesus’ resurrection is not the end. It’s the beginning

In the opening of John’s Gospel, Jesus’ first words are a question directed at the disciples of John the Baptiser. “What are you looking for?” (John 1:38)

And here in this beginning, this new creation, Jesus asks Mary the very same question.  “Whom are you looking for?” (John 20:15) A new ministry is beginning, a new story. Is Jesus asking the same question of us this Easter morning? What are we looking for?  It was when Jesus called her by name that Mary recognised Jesus.  Is Jesus calling our name?  Are we being called to see the new things that God is doing in our lives and in our world?  Does the Lord sometimes communicate in ways or forms that we do not expect and thereby we fail to notice? The resurrection was never the end of the story because we are called to see beyond it.

“He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as He told you.”  (Mark 16:7) And in John, “But go to my brothers and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” (John 20:17) “In my Fatherʼs house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2)

The resurrection is not the end of the story – itʼs only the beginning.
