Jesus Feeds the 5000 John 6:1-15

Jesus had a crowd gather around him and all of a sudden there is a crisis. There was little food around
except a boy had 5 loaves of barley bread (a poor quality bread and because of its lack of gluten was
normally baked without yeast) and a few fish. I donʼt think that the local bakery could have catered for the numbers present.  John then tells his readers (v4) that the Passover Festival was near. The Passover
Is followed the next day by the feast of unleavened bread. So, we have a connection between the events of the Passover Exodus from Egypt and our miracle. But Iʼm not going into the Jewish connection here. Rather, what did Jesus do when he took the bread and fish? Like any Jewish person and us included, he
gave thanks to God. It was only after doing this that the miracle unfolded. What occurred was the miracle of multiplication. Giving thanks is crucial to a life of fullness and blessing. How? By doing what Jesus did. He took what was little and gave thanks to God. He wasnʼt concerned about the size of the problem, or its
impossible situation. He didnʼt panic or get discouraged over not having enough. You take the little you have, no matter how insignificant, lift it up to the Lord and give thanks for it. It could be the gift of a smile, a greeting, a kind word, it does not have to be things. Think of the times you have given thanks and shared what little you had and have been blessed.

May you be blessed today.
