Hear the Word of the Lord
Jeremiah 2:4-13
‘We seem to live in a time in the western world where more and more people identify themselves as non-religious, or of having no religion. Then
there are those who call themselves ‘spiritual’. Many people don’t feel a need to have God in their lives, or perhaps they consider that a spiritual life interferes with their daily existence. Life is too busy. There is a continual push to be number one, to make the money, to get the stuff, to live the dream, to find satisfaction in what surrounds us. But what happens when this is not enough?
In Jeremiah 2:5-6 this is what the Lord says: “What did your ancestors find wrong with me that they left me, and pursued worthless things, and so they became worthless? They didn’t ask ‘Where is the Lord who brought us up from the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness?’ I think the message that Jeremiah preached those thousands of years ago remains very relevant today. Do we recognise and are we thankful for the wonderful gifts God grants us daily, especially the gift of love and forgiveness in Jesus Christ, that he walks the journey of life with us, or is our life just about things?
