Only God makes things grow

1 Corinthians 3:1-9

I wonder how people actually view the clergy, and for that matter, the church in general, especially with all the happenings, positive and negative, in churches around the world. I’m sure that it would be viewed as anything from something to be cast aside to something to be revered.

But do we realise that the true purpose of the church is to be as a servant. As members of Christ’s body, we are all servants of Christ. And Christ himself said, “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and gave himself a ransom for many.” (Matt.20:28, Mark 10:45) When you come before God, when you speak with God, do you ask for a blessing or ask to be a blessing? We all have different gifts and abilities, and it is not that one is more important than the other. They are to operate in cooperation with each other. The important thing is not what we do separately, but what God alone can do. Paul said, “What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants through whom you came to believe – as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”
